Collection: Sandra Mateus Henriques
Sandra Mateus Henriques lives and works full-time as an abstract painter in Estoril. Her art brings life to concepts and emotions that transcend verbal language, celebrating life and love in all their forms. Every shape, scent, sound, and colour serves as inspiration.
Painting is her way of healing, freeing, and fulfilling herself. Sandra combines organic forms and vibrant colours through multiple layers and bold contrasts that convey depth and movement. She sees her paintings as sculptural self-portraits, revealing all the contradictions and vulnerabilities of being human.
She never sketches before painting. Her creative process begins with an open dialogue with her subconscious, allowing it to guide her expression without rules or constraints. In the final phase of her work, she often shifts direction abruptly in search of harmony within chaos, obsessively defining spaces and shapes.
Fascinated by the marks of time on materials, she constantly seeks ways to replicate those effects in her visual narratives. She never cleans her brushes or tools between colour changes, embracing the beauty of unexpected colour traces that enrich each painting’s story. This freedom of movement allows her to paint instinctively, with a spontaneity that reflects her spirit.
Embracing mistakes is her way of finding beauty in imperfection.
The titles of her works are chosen at the end of the process, once she understands what her subconscious was revealing. Sandra prefers not to disclose the meanings behind them, leaving interpretation entirely to the viewer.
