Collection: Humberto Marçal
A native of Setúbal, Humberto Marçal, one of the exponents of contemporary graphic work in Portugal, has been, since 1994, responsible for the engraving and lithography editions of Portuguese center of Screen Printing where he has been a generous dialoguer and wise transmitter of knowledge to new generations of artists. He attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Liége (Belgium) as a scholarship holder from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He worked in the studio by Georges and Bransen (lithography) and in the studio Polygraph, in Barcelona, in the field of artistic engraving. He was a technical advisor for courses and other engraving, lithography and screen-printing training in the most representative locations in the country. He was responsible, for several years, for publishing engravings and artistic lithography at the Sociedade Cooperativa de Gravadores Portugueses (Lisbon). In the area of restoration, he has worked since 1970, in the Graphic Document Restoration Workshop at the Calouste Gulbenlkian Museum. As an artist-engraver he held important individual and collective exhibitions, highlighting in 2014 the retrospective exhibition in Setúbal, the city that saw him born, and that precisely awarded the City Medal of Honor.
