Collection: Sónia Vasconcelos
I am Sónia Vasconcelos, born in Portugal. I began my career at the António Arroios School of Artists in Lisbon, but I abandoned my studies to work abroad, unrelated to the arts.
Family became my priority, moving me away from the visual arts. Painting and drawing have always been a part of me and, after dedicating myself to my children and my profession, I returned to devoting myself to art. Living in Lisbon and with roots in northern Portugal, I find inspiration in the light, the sun, and the diverse landscapes of our country, especially the sea.
My childhood passion for art evolved into a natural talent for drawing, which eventually led me to become a painter or to dream of being one... Selling my work and knowing that it brightens homes brings me immense joy. My creative process varies depending on the painting and the methods chosen for the piece itself. Feedback — both negative and positive — shapes my growth. Light is essential in my work, giving it realism and uniqueness.
I enjoy experimenting with techniques such as acrylic, oil, and charcoal portraits. What I value most is the inspiration I draw from everyday environments: walks, nature and urban scenes inspire my art. If you look at my work, you'll see that they are quite different. I'm on a journey to define my artistic style, striving to improve with each piece. Being an artist is living with the doubt of whether what we produce on canvas resonates with others, whether our expressions are valid, and sometimes we can't, but we also can't live any other way... It's about falling, getting up, and creating something new, because art makes me want to fly, even without wings. And when I decided to fight to be an artist, my life gained a new flavour! The most beautiful thing about being an artist... is fighting to be one!!
