Collection: Vicente Bittencourt

Vicente de Paula Bittencourt Batista

He was born on 19 April 1961 in Trapiche da Barra, Maceió, capital of the state of Alagoas, in north-eastern Brazil.

He began his artistic life at an early age, with his father, the painter and sculptor João Batista, as his first teacher.
From 1976, living and exhibiting his work in Brasilia, he was already showing his characteristic technique and style.
From 1986 onwards. Vicente Bittencourt settled in the town of EMBU in the state of São Paulo, exhibiting permanently at the GALERIA ORIXÃS.

Living in the Quinta-Atelier of the Orixás Gallery, in direct contact with nature, he manages to unleash all his creativity and artistic potential, producing large sculptures.
She draws the materials for her works from nature. Stone, more specifically
and wood (Pau Brasil and Sucupira) are his favourites. Vegetable resins modelled to create unique assemblages with other materials such as bones, whelks, etc. are also frequently used.

His style can be considered fantastic surrealism. His "memories of the fu-ture" are filled with a strong timeless mysticism and are populated by animal women of great sensuality.

Vicente Bittencourt's oneiric universe has crossed borders and today most of his works are in the hands of collectors all over the world.
Vicente Bittencourt has a permanent exhibition at GALERIA ORIXÁS in SINTRA.
