Duda Breda captura el cuerpo en un momento de trascendencia posada, o de autodescubrimiento. La figura, arrodillada y con la camisa cubierta, se estira hacia arriba en un gesto a la vez orgulloso y doloroso. El nítido detalle anatómico del torso y las extremidades sugiere un estudiado dominio de la forma física. Sin embargo, la ocultación del rostro con una tela oscura revela la contradicción central de la obra: visibilidad sin identidad .
La fotografía cuestiona la fantasía del cuerpo masculino perfecto —delgado, musculoso, flexionado en equilibrio— como símbolo de valía y conformidad. Al hacerlo, Breda expone la supresión que a menudo acompaña a la asimilación estética. ¿Quién es el hombre bajo el cuerpo? ¿Acaso la búsqueda de la imagen de fuerza nos cuesta inevitablemente presencia, autonomía o individualidad?
El movimiento ascendente puede tener ecos de la escultura grecorromana clásica, pero aquí está impregnado de crítica: el cuerpo masculino ideal se ha convertido en un disfraz, usado y representado, nunca del todo habitado.
